Rethinking Creativity at Work

How often do we hear the phrase, “I’m not creative”, or “I don’t have a single creative bone in my body”, and other variations of the same belief?
That might be true if creativity were limited to artistic skill such as painting or composing. But in a broader sense, creativity is a capacity we all possess. It emerges from our ability to imagine.
If imagination is “thinking outside the box”, then creativity may be the act of stepping outside it.
Author and artist Shaun McNiff describes creativity as something that “puts imagination into action”. In his book Imagination In Action, he writes, “Creativity is a force of nature, the mainstream of imagination accessible to all.”
If the creative ability to translate imagination into action fuels innovation, adaptability, and meaningful progress at work, why wouldn’t we aspire to develop it?
Maya Angelou said, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
So how is your workplace nurturing creativity today?
And how might creative expression enrich your professional environment?
